A new way of cooking.

Before I bought our Thermomix, I asked around to get different peoples opinions of the (very expensive) appliance. The majority of reviews were positive, but I still couldn't get my head around how I could justify such a large amount of money. I feared that like every other appliance I had 'needed', the Thermomix would be used for a few days before it started to collect dust.

After we had a demo in our house, Tim bit the bullet and signed the papers to buy the Thermomix on the interest only deal. I was still SO SO scared that we had thrown away a huge amount of money. The night that we bought it, I made a promise that I would make myself use it at least once a day for the first year (while we were still paying it off). The first few days were hard. I would go straight to the stove/oven as soon as it was time to make dinner. It took me a good 4 days for me to change my way of cooking and the habits I was in.

After those 4 days though, I haven't looked back. I have had the Thermomix for just over 2 months now and I go straight to it to make ANYTHING. I love it and absolutely have no regrets about buying it. Tim, on the other hand, had a few issues with it to start with because he is a 'meat and 3 veg' kinda guy. I had spent the first two weeks of our Thermomixes life making stews/soups/pasta dishes etc. Whilst Tim loved them, he missed having to "chew his food". So..I did some research and found recipes I could use the Thermomix for that would suit our family better. The list is bottomless and Tim is much happier now!

I thought I owed it to everyone to share a little of what a week of cooking in the Thermomix looks like in our house. I received so much feedback when I asked others what they used their Thermomix for and thought that now that I had my own, I should pay the favour forward. I tried to remember to take photos of everything I made, but there were a few things I forgot to photograph, including pumpkin soup, pikelets and our favourite - fried rice.

Any questions, feel free to ask...

Buttermilk and spreadable butter (made from Pure Cream)
Butter - chopped up and ready to use for cooking
Spaghetti Bolognese
Chicken, green beans, bacon, carrots and way to much potato!! (note - half the potato in future)
Our daily porridge for breakfast
Real mash potato
Brownies
The infamous 100+ biscuits (adapted for the Thermomix)
Chicken, bacon and corn pie
Grated cheese - we now buy blocks of cheese and grate it ourselves
Homemade pizza and real hot chocolate
Vegemite scrolls
Silverside, potato, carrots and beans
Pineapple and coconut muffins

I love the Thermomix so much (my favourite thing being how little mess it makes) that I've actually signed up to be a Thermomix consultant. Crazy how things work out, isn't it?

I'm off to find something to make with the buttermilk before it goes off now.
Have a lovely Friday!

  1. I'm so glad you love your TMX. We're coming up to our first year anniversary and I could count on my hand the number of days it hasn't been used! We worked out that from the savings we make from making more from scratch (we were pretty big from scratch makers pre TMX but as you know, it quarters the time it takes and makes light work of it) it'll take 2 years to pay for itself and then we're saving money.

And the TMX makes great rusks for bubs! It saved me a lot of money there (as well as a number of other baby friendly meals!)

Enjoy and congrats on becoming a consultant!

  2. Hi! I just found your page after one of my followers led me to it - she recommended your choc chip and sultana muesli bars :)
I came so, so close to buying a thermie a couple of months ago, but just couldn't go through with it. I love seeing all the things you've been making with yours.

    1. Hi Kylie,
Thanks so much for stopping by. I completely understand what you are saying about not being able to go through with buying a Thermomix. If it wasn't for my husband, I wouldn't have bought one either. I'm really glad that I did now though. Do you have a Facebook page?
